Early 2026 was the paperwork chapter. The architect work came together over a few months, and on May 1, 2026 Swain County issued the building permit. After the bond and the temporary power pole, it was finally official: I can build.
It does not look like much - a stamped set of plans and a permit on the wall - but everything before this was preparation. The next entries in this journal will have concrete in them.
