We Dug the Footers

June 17, 2026

June 17 was a big one. We dug the footers.

The morning started with the crew laying out and squaring the foundation. It was already close. Back at Thanksgiving the kids and I had measured and squared most of it by hand, so the lines only needed fine tuning before the excavator went to work. There is something satisfying about seeing months of planning finally scratched into the dirt at full scale.

By the end of the day the footers were dug and the whole site was cleaned up. Once the trenches were cut you can finally read the shape of the cabin in the ground, the ridge side footprint we have been talking about for almost four years.

Ty and I also found time to slip away, buy a couple of fly rods, and get on the water. You have to take the breaks when the mountains hand them to you.

What is next

Today, June 19, we lay the rebar. The footing inspection is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, and if it passes we pour concrete for the footers on Thursday, June 25. I have also reached out to the plumber to start getting quotes. One step at a time, but it is finally moving.
