The walls and slab are in. It looks like a house. And — we have power!
After the footers were dug, the next steps were to pour them, lay the concrete block walls, and put in the slab. But there was a moment where we had to slow down and stop.
Once the walls were up, I realized I needed someone who really understood under-slab plumbing. It wasn't something I wanted to take on myself because of how precise the measurements have to be. Through my concrete guy, I found a local plumber who came out and ran it. At the same time, we also got power.
Once the plumbing passed inspection, the slab got poured, and it passed inspection too. From then on, building up here got easier, because I could stand on concrete and do the work. For the last three and a half years, everything has been in the dirt. Finally, I'm out of the dirt.
I also had the outside of the block walls waterproofed. On my last trip, at the end of September, when I came up to do the sill plates, I made sure the waterproofing got its inspection sign-off.
